Once again Daithi will be running the Belfast Marathon for the “Light Gaza” campaign. This is a very special run for Daithi as he will hit the 100th mile mark for Palestine during this very race!
Daithi traveled to Gaza November 2012 as part of the Irish Friends of Palestine Delegation. Having entered Gaza immediately after Operation Pillar of Defense, Daithi witnessed first hand the complete devastation of the area. Nothing can prepare you for what you see, schools, hospitals destroyed and even a football pitch! Daithi said “As a teacher, to see children struggling to read and learn in darkness and some of them dying as a result of using candles for light is something we can all help change!”
In Memory of Nadine, Farah and Sabri and all the others who have died trying to read a book!
Below, A Photo of the books the children were studying for school before the fire broke out when the candle they were using to study fell over and caught their bedroom on fire, killing all three.
Daithi said: “A chairde, Once again I will be running the marathon in aid of Palestine. It is my hope to raise money to help those suffering without electricity and to help stop the deaths of so many due to the dangerous use of lit candles! Students of all ages find it nearly impossible to study or read a book due to the lack of electicity as Gaza’s only powerplant is nearly shut down. Many small children havd died by using candles to read or to study, we must do what we can to end these needless deaths. By donating to this cause we can deliver solar/rechargeable lights to poor families and help save lives! No child should die from trying to read a book!! The injustices these people suffer must end and we must do everything in our power to help them. Please donate what you can, grma. “
